Many EPC improvements are simple, affordable, and can make a noticeable difference to your energy rating and running costs.

Quick & Low-Cost Improvements
Switch to LED lighting throughout the property
Fit a smart thermostat or heating controls (room thermostat, programmer, TRVs)
Draught-proof doors, windows, and loft hatches
Lag hot water pipes and fit a hot water cylinder jacket (if applicable)
Seal unused chimneys with a removable draught excluder

Insulation Improvements
Top up loft insulation to the recommended depth (around 270mm)
Cavity wall insulation (where suitable)
Insulate floors (especially suspended timber floors)

Heating & Hot Water
Upgrade an old boiler to a modern, efficient condensing boiler
Install thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) on radiators
Improve heating controls (time and temperature zoning)

Windows & Doors
Upgrade to double or triple glazing
Add secondary glazing where replacement isn’t possible
Replace single-glazed doors or add draught-proofing

Renewable & Longer-Term Options
Solar PV panels
Solar hot water systems
Heat pumps (air source or ground source)

Keep the Paperwork
Always keep certificates, invoices, and installation details. These help ensure any upgrades are properly reflected in your EPC rating. These could be for windows, insulation, solar panels or building control.
